Role and Responsibilities
Greet patients in a professional and caring manner.
Order laboratory testing in lab computer system exactly as prescribed by provider.
Correctly charge patients; follow billing rules and insurance specifies.
Perform phlebotomy including tolerance testing.
Instruct patients in sample collection.
Process and properly label samples according to established procedures for individual tests.
Answer telephone questions from nurses, physicians, and patients.
Adhere to strict confidentiality.
Assist medical technologists in the performance of quality testing.
Announce and properly process STAT samples.
File, mail, and fax reports and internal laboratory documents as needed.
Restock, clean, organize and care for laboratory work stations and equipment.
Order and monitor send-out testing. May verify billing or perform other clerical functions as needed.
Run limited laboratory testing (waived).
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy training program or concurrent attendance.
Washington State MA-P certification.
Excellent customer service skills.
The ability and desire to become proficient in multiple computer systems.
Physical stamina, energy, and sense of urgency, to work in a fast paced environment.
Ability to perform exacting, detailed work including data entry without errors.
Ability to function as a member of a team and interact positively with co-workers.
Preferred Skills
Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy training program or concurrent attendance.
Washington State MA-P certification.
